
Blu-ray, commonly known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name given to a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA).
They have then since be produced by the world leading electronic specialists such as Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson.
The Blu-ray format was developed to allow consumers to record data, rewrite and playback their recordings in a high-definition video (HD) format.
Other feature of the Blu-ray system is the capability to store large amounts of data as well as the other features mentioned above.
The format of the Blu-ray system provides more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs. They are also able to hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc.
Due to this capability to provide a lot more extra space and the combined features of recording, rewriting and playback will allow the consumers to engage in a unique High Definition experience.
